Genuine Antique map "Globe Terrestre" from Description de l'Univers by Alain Manesson Mallet, Paris, 1683. Two maps of the world on one sheet. At top, Africa, Europe and Asia with a indefinite Australia connected to New Guinea. Africa has large letters, ‘CHAM'. At bottom is the classic ancient world, with Africa split into a north and south continent. Southern half, named Antichthones, shows and names the Mountains of the Moon with a note that they are the source of the Nile. Nice dark impression on clean paper with good margins. Faint age toning. Text on verso. Image measures 5 3/4"x 4".
